“Our air cadets were trained on a number of occasions in the following subjects – Personal Safety & Awareness Training, Basic Self Defence Techniques and Security & Suspect Bomb Awareness. This training has been of great benefit to both cadets and staff …. and is not only useful to us at our Squadron premises but is also put into practice in connection with the large number of community and public events we attend throughout our cadet year.”

  • “This input had an extremely positive impact on our students.”… read more.

“This input had an extremely positive impact on our students. They gained a much clearer understanding of violent crime statistics and this helped to reduce their concerns regarding fear of attack. They became more aware of the various preventative measures that could be utilised to reduce the opportunities for a physical attack on them. Student confidence and assertiveness skills were improved with benefits for a more successful response to unwanted behaviour.”

Every member of my staff took part in the training and the evaluations were extremely positive. • “Great trainers who really know their stuff.”… read more.

“Great trainers who really know their stuff. They made you feel like you can hurt an attacker and get away – you don’t have to be the one that gets hurt. Actually practising the ‘theory’ has given me greater confidence in my ability to deter an attacker.”

  • “The workshops served to increase the students awareness of self defence issues and the practical aspects of the programme gave the students hands on experience of what to do in a threatening situation.

“The workshops served to increase the students awareness of self defence issues and the practical aspects of the programme gave the students hands on experience of what to do in a threatening situation.

The programme itself covered aspects of self defence ranging from how to deal and respond to unwanted behaviour verbally, to more serious incidents such as the actions to follow if a sexual assault was being committed. While some of the students preferred to sit back and watch some of the activities, as they found them too intense, the sessions have unquestionably raised awareness of self defence issues.

The incidence of attacks was also covered to inform students of the types of attacks which occurred most frequency in the local area as well as giving statistics to reassure the students that physical / sexual attacks are not as common as some had perceived which served to reduce the “fear of attack” culture many in society believe to be true today.

Overall the sessions were well planned and designed and the training techniques used were appropriate for the student groups concerned. The friendly approach that instructors used ensured the students responded positively when participating within the workshops despite the seriousness of the subjects being covered.

On a more personal note, these sessions should be made readily available to all young people in order to increase their personal awareness skills. Introducing training sessions into schools / colleges as a matter of course can only benefit the students by giving them advice they need to protect themselves and who might otherwise become victims of crime.”
