To help us achieve our objectives we work with like-minded organisations to provide a range of advice, confidence building courses and awareness raising techniques to help keep YOU safe.
We have been providing personal safety courses throughout the UK since 1997 – from Thurso in the North of Scotland to London in the South of England, Aberdeen in the East to Ullapool in the West – and we have an array of instructors, male and female, to suit your needs.
We’d like to introduce you to our current members of our Board:
Alan is the founder of The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety and has been in management since 1985 within various sectors including the hotel, leisure and entertainment industry.
He brings these skills alongside his trainer skills in Personal Safety, First Aid and practical self defence to his role as Executive Manager.
Ann currently works as a Development Worker for The Ayrshire Community Trust where she is responsible for all things related to the Third Sector including volunteer recruitment, volunteer management, funding support, Governance support, group set-up support and Third Sector Forum support.
Ann also sits on various strategic groups such as the Community Justice Operational Implementation Group, the Community Justice Inclusion Thematic Group and Green Health Partnership.
Previously, prior to the introduction of the Third Sector Interface (TSI), Ann was a Senior Training Officer at the Volunteer Centre, having responsibility for staff and running various projects. This included delivering employability skills to some of the hardest to reach clients in North Ayrshire.
Ann was also a Training Officer at the Volunteer Centre where she delivered personal development training to volunteers and Volunteer Management training to organisations.
With over two decades of extensive experience working with a wide range of partners to achieve the best outcomes for the people of North Ayrshire, Ann is an ideal addition to our Board of Trustees.
Alan has a long career in accounting and finance having been the Hotel Accountant at Turnberry Hotel, Financial Controller at various other hotels and companies, and most recently, Finance Director, for React Catering Services Ltd, a company Alan created in 2007 as part of a management buy-out.
He helped progress the company from a £250k turnover to almost £1.5m turnover by 2017.
Having developed a visual impairment, Alan has retired from his company and aims to help ScotCPS with his wide range of financial skills, including the use of financial and payroll software, bank reconciliations, purchase and sales ledger reconciliations, VAT Returns to HMRC and quarterly management accounts for trustee meetings.
Jean started as a primary school teacher in both Irvine and Dennistoun before opening and managing her own nursery in 1987.
As well as running her nursery she became a part time lecturer and then SVQ assessor in Childcare at Cardonald College in Glasgow and worked in an ASL school in Paisley.
In 2005, she bought Mayfield Nursery in the south side of Glasgow which is now very successful. In 2008, whilst still running her own nursery she encouraged her two brothers to set up a family business which was the start of the Collin Care group. Jean is now one of the Directors of this group overseeing 8 children’s nurseries spread over the West of Scotland and is responsible for 9 Managers and over 100 staff.
Jean has a vast knowledge of child protection and is tremendously passionate about the education of children, in fact she badgered the Scottish Parliament so much about the distribution of 3-5 year old funding in Glasgow, that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon actually came to her nursery for a meeting with her!
Jean was awarded an MBE for her services to Preschool and charity in January 2021. Jean’s vast knowledge of child protection issues as well as her charity fundraising experience make her a great addition to our Board.

Since moving to Ayrshire in the early 1980’s, Ann has worked with North Ayrshire Council, Trading Standards plus the Crime Prevention Panel as Chairperson for the Three Towns. She has organised Neighbourhood Watch and various programs such as ‘Vamoose to Vandalism’, ‘Clued-up Kids’ and the ‘Big World’, as well as the CCTV mobile unit with Police Scotland and Community Safety.
Ann’s roles within the Council have been working with Homeless, Trading Standards, Women’s Aid, Home Security, Violence Against Women, Anti-social Behaviour in North Ayrshire area.
Outwith these roles, Ann was primary fundraiser for Wheelchair Basketball clubs, and was volunteering around North Ayrshire. Currently, she enjoys spending time with local community groups.
